Jacksonville University to Hold December Commencement
     JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Jacksonville University will bestow degrees on more than 300 students at its annual fall commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 13, 2008. Commencement will begin at 10 a.m. in Swisher Gymnasium.

Florida power companies get rate increases
Fernandina customers will pay more
     NOVEMBER 13, 2008 - Florida’s Public Service Commission (PSC) approved the 2009 fuel adjustment rates for Progress Energy Florida, Tampa Electric Company, Gulf Power Company and Florida Public Utilities Company. Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) requested a deferred decision, since it plans to file an adjusted 2009 fuel charge projection with the Commission on November 17.

Customer service hearings set for Peoples Gas System rate request in Jacksonville
     NOVEMBER 13, 2008 - The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will conduct a customer service hearing on November 14, 2008, for customers of Peoples Gas System (Peoples Gas). In August, Peoples Gas filed a petition with the PSC for approval of a $26.4 million permanent increase to its rates. The utility’s last rate case was in 2003.

Governor presents prestigious Medal of Merit to Air Force, civil rights pioneer
     NOVEMBER 13, 2008, JACKSONVILLE – Governor Charlie Crist, recognizing the sacrifices and service of Florida’s more than 1.7 million military veterans, presented the Governor’s Medal of Merit to Air Force veteran and civil rights pioneer retired Lt. Colonel Alton Yates. The Medal of Merit is the highest military honor the Governor can give, and it is reserved for Florida military servicemen and women who have given exceptional service while on active duty.

Florida Communities Trust, Jacksonville partner on Huguenot Memorial Park Expansion
     The Florida Communities Trust (FCT), the state's premier program helping local communities preserve open space and recreational areas, has partnered with the City of Jacksonville to purchase an expansion to the Huguenot Memorial Park. This purchase helps expand the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve and provides additional ecological space for native wildlife and vegetation.
