Nov. 13, 2008 – As part of the new Great Outdoor Adventure element of Mayor Peyton’s Book Club, members and their families are invited to enjoy the family classic, An American Tail (rated G), under the autumn stars. WHEN: WHERE: Treaty Oak at Jessie Ball DuPont Park, 1123 Prudential Drive Free parking for the event is available in the Suddath garage on Flagler Street between Suddath and the Hampton Inn and additional parking is available in the Prudential Flagler parking lot from 4-9 p.m. Overnight parking is not permitted. WHAT: Families are asked to bring lawn chairs and blankets to this centrally-located JaxParks setting. Attendees should check the forecast and dress appropriately, as the weather may be cool. Free popcorn will be provided. Families are encouraged to pack a picnic dinner, or purchase a Domino’s pizza ($5 per pie), Starbuck’s hot cocoa ($1 per cup) and other beverages on site. No alcoholic beverages are allowed in the park. This event is made possible by the Jacksonville Children’s Commission, JaxParks, the Jacksonville Public Library, Downtown Vision, Inc. and Suddath. Volunteers will be provided by Duval’s Youth Voice Council, a dedicated group of youth ages 13 to 18 who have joined together to help improve the community by providing a forum for communication and active involvement in a wide range of civic activities. Mayor Peyton’s Book Club Great Outdoor Adventure is a collaboration of the Jacksonville Children’s Commission, the Jacksonville Public Library and JaxParks. In addition to a series of 12 books and other literacy tools, the program provides opportunities for Jacksonville 4-year-olds and their families to get outdoors and learn about nature, conservation and the environment. The program showcases 13 of Jacksonville’s 300-plus parks, features monthly "green" educational activities at JaxParks community centers, offers monthly themed library materials and much more.
