New Games!

New Games!

If you’re a Gamer you’ve got to love the month of November. Capping off the holiday shopping season has always been the way of the Video game industry. However, I don’t seen Gamers complaining. With all the great games who would?

This week following the release Gears of War 2 comes two other big hit games. Treyarch’s Call of Duty: World at War and EA-Dice’s Mirror’s Edge.

I know that last week I wrote a little blurb about the Beta being open. However, for all you other Gamers who didn’t get a chance at a Beta, I will cover it again. Treyarch has done it. I know that

Call of Duty World at War
some of you are and will still be loyal to Infinity Ward and COD4. However, Treyarch has learned from the best and have run with it.

Call of Duty World at War has many new game modes such as Capture the Flag and War. War pits two teams on a Domination style map variant where there are 5 flags that you must control. The catch is that you must control the flags in certain order and if you do capture the flags you will gain momentum which will allow you to capture the flags quicker than the other team. Also Hardcore variants of Free-for-All and War have also been implemented.

The weapon classes include Rifles, Sub-Machine Guns, Heavy-Machine Guns, Shotguns, and Bolt Action Rifles (Snipers). New attachments have also been added from Bayonets to Barrel

The war looks just as good on the Wii
Drums. New perks are also available. Everything from Sunglasses to the coveted Flamethrower. New rewards help out the battle, three kills gives you a Recon Plane, five will reward you with an Artillery Strike, and seven will have your enemies running for their lives with dogs, which are way more proficient than the choppers from COD4.

If you loved Call of Duty 4 you will love Call of Duty World at War set to release Tuesday November 11th.

 Again, the Flamethrower...
Now on to a game you may or may not have heard about. I personally had not heard of Mirror’s Edge until the demo appeared in the Live marketplace last week. Since then the demo has been the only thing to pull me away from the Call of Duty Beta.

Mirror’s Edge is a first person game. Oh what did you expect me to say first person shooter? I bet you did. This game, however, revolves more around running from a fight.

Now before you say, "What’s the fun in that?"  the answer is -- many things.

Dice has done a remarkable job of capturing what it would feel like if you were actually running

 Mirror's Edge
on a rooftop while being shot at. The gameplay controls are as smooth as can be. You can jump off of a rooftop, fall and land 30 feet below, run and jump off a wall, and disarm an unsuspecting enemy all with fluid grace and getting use to the controls. With a little practice you can get the hang of the controls. I played the demo three times before I was running and dodging with the best of them. So, just give it a little practice and you’ll do fine.

Mirror’s Edge runs onto shelves November 13th.

Not to leave everything else out here’s a look at what else is coming out this week. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World and Star Wars the Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels both will come to the Wii. Xbox 360 will get Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts as well as Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3. Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 will come to the PS3, PS2, PSP, and Xbox

 Combat is quick and efficient.
360.
