My Health Quest
15 Pounds Gone!
My Health Quest15 Pounds Gone! It’s been a month now since I announced my desire to lose the extra weight gained due to poor diet, lack of exercise, and my untreated sleep disorder known as Sleep Apnea. With the first month under my loosening belt, I have lost 15 pounds. That’s not bad, that’s one half of a pound every day for the last 30 days. I am excited knowing I only have 115 pounds to go, I just have to remember the slower and steady way is better in the long run. In just thirty short days, I have developed an incredible love for my new found breakfast cereal. Every morning I have eaten ½ of a cup of plain "quick" oatmeal for breakfast. I must admit that around day ten - I wasn’t sure if I would be even able to spell the word oatmeal, much less have another bowl for breakfast. Oddly enough, I love it, so much so, one or two of the days, I think I had a second serving for supper too. I wanted to give you an account of what it is I have been doing for food during the rest of the day. Basically, in an effort to reverse my metabolism from the storing of food in fat form, I have introduced a diet that now causes my metabolism to use up the excess that has been stored and hence the weight loss. Shortly after breakfast, around 10:00am, I grab a 5-6 oz. can of either tuna fish packed in water or chicken breast in water for a snack. With a dab of mayonnaise and salt and pepper to taste, I just mix that up in a bowl and eat it. That gives me nearly all protein and no carbohydrates. It’s the carbohydrates that we eat that often don’t get burned off by some form of activity and then are stored on our body’s as fat. For lunch, I eat again. Usually I try to have a chicken salad with a light dressing or vinaigrette sometime around 1:00pm and 2:00pm. The one thing that goes away is bread. Breads made with white enriched, processed flower are not good for us. Breads made with whole grains are just fine. Even with the whole grains, limiting the intake of bread, potatoes, rice, and starchy vegetables are the secret to losing more weight. Next time I will discuss dinner options and when during the week I have taken a day off to maintain my sanity. The month of November is challenge enough for anybody, for me it’s going to be tough staying with the program while everybody else is piling high the stuffing and potatoes and gravy. Mmm Turkey, stuffing and gravy! Happy Thanksgiving in advance and here’s to my next weigh in on December 8th.
