Tough loss for the Tornadoes
Bradford High School lost a heart breaker at Keystone Heights Friday night 14-13. On the first play of the game we had a bad exchange between our center and quarterback and lost the fumble. The Indians scored on a short field to make the score 7-0. We had another turn over in the first quarter on a interception. Keystone also capitalized on this miscue and scored once more to make the score 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Our young men stepped up on defense and shut the Indians out for the remainder of the game.
We came out a point behind in a tough loss to our Clay County neighbors. We did not protect the ball very well during this key match up. When you lose four fumbles and one interception it is nearly impossible to come away with a win. A huge difference in the game was a blocked extra point try. As a team we improved in every area as the year went a long except in protecting our kickers. This past Friday it helped cost us the game. Keystone is a tough and well coached football team. You can not have turn overs or special team blunders and hope to come out on top.
Several of our young men played well. Charles Jones a senior corner back picked off a Indian pass, which was his ninth interception of the year. He has to be near the top in the state for picks. I wish he had played for us before this season. He is a quite leader and tremendous weapon in our secondary. As a coach i wish i had several more like him.
Our team will close out the season vs. Houston Christian High School Friday at the Disney Wide World of Sports in Orlando. The Mustangs have the best fullback that I have seen in years. We will have to play our best game of the season to stop him and beat the tough bunch from Texas.
We would greatly appreciate all the fan support that we could get to pump up our players in the final game of what has been a tough season. Our Touchdown club has a charter bus lined up for fans wishing to travel and support the Tornadoes for the last time this season. Please call BHS at 904-966-6075 for further details.
I would like to thank all of our fans who showed up in Keystone last Friday night. Our players and staff really appreciated it. Thanks for being there when we have needed you. We hope to see you one more time.
