FDOT Five Year Work Program to be Discussed
     LAKE CITY,Fla - A reduced budget has challenged the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to come up with a slate of projects that can be accomplished over the next five years and these projects will be presented to the public over the next two weeks in three separate work program public hearings.

Gainesville Skatepark Opens
     Since my days as a seventh grader at Fort Clarke Middle School, skateboarding has been a pretty big deal in Gainesville with a fairly large number of skaters and a good scene going on, not suprirsing given that the University of Florida and Santa Fe Community College both are in Gainesville. However, Gainesville has lagged behind in one essential area with respect to skateboarding: it has lacked a real skatepark.

FWC officer receives several awards
     Officer Robert B. Johnston of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) received several awards during the December Commission meeting in Key West. Johnston, of Levy County, is the FWC's Officer of the Year.

Final adoption of irrigation rule changes set for Dec. 9

Florida Green Lodging Program designates six new members including state park cabins
     TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recently designated six properties in the Florida Green Lodging Program, including the 16 cabins at Gold Head Branch State Park, the first designation in Clay County. The voluntary state initiative provides the lodging industry with free technical assistance, encouraging hotels and motels to adopt cost-saving "green" practices that reduce waste, conserve natural resources and improve the bottom line.

Cane Day at Dudley Farm Delights Visitors
     Dudley Farm, the historic Cracker farmstead which is part of the State Park system of Florida, holds a Cane Day every first Saturday of December in honor of the birthday of Miss Myrtle Elizabeth Dudley who left the family farm to the State of Florida. As would have been common as part of the farm's operations this time of year, sugarcane is harvested, cut, pressed, and boiled to produce cane syrup on Cane Day and the public thereby gets to view a special farm chore that at one time was essential to early Floridian homesteads.

Florida-Grown Christmas Trees Presented To State Leaders At Capitol
     TALLAHASSEE – Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charles H. Bronson today presented freshly cut Florida-grown Christmas trees to the Governor and Cabinet officers at The Capitol. Bronson was accompanied by Tony and Debbie Harris, operators of Ergle Christmas Tree Farm in Dade City, who grew the trees and presented them on behalf of the Florida Christmas Tree Association.
