Damage left in wake of Thursday storms

Damage left in wake of Thursday storms

A strong low-pressure system Thursday morning brought severe weather to parts of the area and put northeast Florida and southeast Georgia under a tornado watch.

National Weather Service reports indicate that a possible tornado struck the Sanderson area around 10:43 a.m. tearing the roof completely off one home and severely damaging another roof on a home off or Ruise Drive. Approximately an hour before that an EFO tornado touched down near Blackshear, Georgia tearing shingles off a home, downing a few trees, and damaging a fence.

About 10:15 a.m. two small waterspouts were observed on the St. Johns River by a motorist near the Buckman Bridge.

There were also reports of trees and power lines down across northeast Florida and southeast Georgia.
