Harman Receives Tillie Fowler NROTC Scholarship Harman Receives Tillie Fowler NROTC ScholarshipJacksonville, Fla.- Jacksonville University’s NROTC Division is proud to announce Senior Daniel Harman as the recipient of the 2008 Tillie K. Fowler NROTC Scholarship for academic success and dedication to his country. Harman, who received $3,000, was recognized at a recent luncheon on campus that included JU Board of Trustees Chairman Mike Shad and member Buck Fowler. In addition, a plaque recognizing Harman was hung in the Tillie K. Fowler NROTC building on campus. "I am thrilled to receive this scholarship," said Harman. "It is an honor to be singled out by both Jacksonville University and the Fowler family." To qualify for the scholarship, students must be enrolled in the NROTC program and be matriculated as full-time students, be a junior or senior, have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a NROTC aptitude of 3.0 and demonstrate a high level of dedication to his or her country. The Tillie Fowler NROTC Scholarship honors Tillie Fowler (1942-2005), who became the first female president of Jacksonville City Council and who went on to serve four terms in the United States House of Representatives before retiring in 2001. In addition to her work in both local and national government, she was active in many organizations which work to improve the quality of life in Jacksonville. She was a founding member of the Duval County Public Education Foundation, past president of the Junior League, past chairman of Volunteer Jacksonville, a member of the Mayor's Commission on the Status of Women and of Leadership Jacksonville. |
