JU works with the Second Harvest Food Bank for a holiday special

 

The Dolphins have faced the third hardest schedule in the nationIn keeping with the tradition of the holiday season, fans will have a chance to give and receive on Monday night.

Any fan brining a non-perishable or canned food item will receive half-off admission as the JU men’s basketball team hosts Bethune-Cookman at 7 p.m. at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

All of the food donations will go to the Second Harvest Food Bank, with a mission to distribute food and grocery products to hungry Americans and to educate the public about the causes and possible solutions to problems of domestic hunger.

"We hope that with this promotion, we will help raise awareness for the Second Harvest Food Bank as well as some donations to help their cause," said JU director of athletics Alan Verlander. " This is a great cause that helps a lot of people throughout the city of Jacksonville that are less fortunate during the holiday season."

Dolphins faced third hardest schedule in the nation: With the Dolphins (2-6) returning home, it comes at a good time after JU has gone through a grueling schedule. Entering Friday night’s play, the Dolphins have faced the third hardest schedule in the country according to several RPI rankings – which is a key measurement tool for the NCAA men’s basketball committee.

"We created our schedule to get our team ready for conference play, which is the most important part of our schedule," said JU head coach Cliff Warren.

Holiday Homestand: Jacksonville’s return home starts a rare two-game holiday homestand for the Dolphins. A year ago, JU did not play a single game at home during the month of December but will play four this season as they host Bethune-Cookman on Monday (12/22) and Troy (12/29). Both games will be played Downtown at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
