Main Street Starke named as December 2008 Florida Main Street Community of the Month
     Home to the "sweetest strawberries this side of heaven," Starke, Florida is a small city just 24 miles northeast of Gainesville, with an energetic and committed Main Street community determined to enhance and expand their downtown district. Starke was designated a Florida Main Street Community in 2005.

Battle of Thomas Creek marker moved for safety
     The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has honored the joint request from the Sons of the American Revolution and the West Nassau Historical Society and moved the Battle of Thomas Creek marker to a safer location. The marker was located in the median of US 1, a busy four lane highway, and was not easily accessible to the public.
