Battle of Thomas Creek marker moved for safety

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has honored the joint request from the Sons of the American Revolution and the West Nassau Historical Society and moved the Battle of Thomas Creek marker to a safer location. The marker was located in the median of US 1, a busy four lane highway, and was not easily accessible to the public.

The new location is on the Nassau County side of the creek to the west of the southbound lanes to give visitors a safer entrance to the commemoration of the 1777 battle.

The FDOT also replaced the bolts that held the marker to its post. The plaque was erected in 1975 by the Florida Society of the Children of the American Revolution in cooperation with the Florida Department of State.
