Treating St. Nick

Treating St. Nick

(Family Features) "Dear Santa, I've made you some crispy marshmallow-cereal treats that I've cut into happy holiday shapes. I piped them with decorating icings and used colored sugars, confetti, and sprinkles to finish them off. I even made a snow-covered chimney, just for you, Santa! Take some goodies for everyone at the Pole to celebrate the holiday. Be sure to come back next year!"

The kid in all of us wants to leave something special for Santa. This year, the Wilton Test Kitchens offer an alternative to traditional cookies with festive Crispy Cutouts and Santa's Chimney Treats. Kids will love making them and Santa will love eating them. The holiday shapes are a snap to make with cookie cutters, and the cute chimney is built by cutting the treats into squares and pressing them together. White cookie icing outlines the bricks and makes the snow-covered top. A simple Santa-shaped icing decoration adds the finishing touch.

Now just pour that glass of milk and set out the treats for Santa...he'll take it from there.

Grab these crispy munchies before they dash away, dash away, dash away all!

Crispy Holiday Treats

Recipe Courtesy of Wilton Industries
Makes about 15 cut-outs or 12 stacked chimney treats

Crispy Recipe:

1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) butter or margarine
4 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups crisp rice cereal

Spray silicone spatula or wooden spoon and pan (see below for size) with vegetable pan spray.

In large saucepan, melt butter; add marshmallows. Cook and stir until melted. Add cereal; mix well. Spread into prepared pan.

Crispy Cutouts:

Red, White, Yellow and Green Tube Decorating Icings
Cinnamon Drops, Christmas Confetti, Twinkling Trees Mix, Snowflake Mix Sprinkles
Red, Green and White Colored Sugars

Spread cereal mixture into 11 x 17 x 1 in. pan. When cool to touch, cut with candy cane, star, stocking or tree cookie cutters. Cool completely. Decorate treats as desired with tube decorating icings, cinnamon drops, sprinkles and colored sugars.

Santa's Chimney Treats:

White Cookie Icing
Santa Icing Decorations
4-inch lollipop sticks

Spread cereal mixture into 13 x 9 inch pan. When cool to touch, cut into 2-inch squares; stack 2-3 squares, pressing together to make a chimney shape.

With Cookie Icing, draw brick lines, one side of the chimney at a time, allowing icing to dry. Add "snow" icing to top of chimney, allowing icing to drip down chimney sides. Allow to dry. Attach icing decoration to lollipop stick with icing; allow to dry. Insert cookie stick into top of chimney.
