Arbor Day in Florida will be on January 16

Arbor Day in Florida will be on January 16

Arbor Day is a nationally-celebrated observance that promotes the benefits of trees in the urban environment and encourages tree planting and care. Founded by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska in 1872, National Arbor Day is celebrated each year on the last Friday in April.

Individual states conduct their own Arbor Day celebrations at various times of the year. Florida has one of the first Arbor Day celebrations in the nation, on the third Friday in January. In 2009, Arbor Day will be celebrated on January 16. Over 100 communities in Florida celebrate Arbor Day, either as a stand-alone event or in conjunction with some other occasion.

Check with your local city officials or school department to see how your community is celebrating Arbor Day.
